Non-Governmental Organization Responsibilities for Health Systems Strengthening in the Wake of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake Background and Introduction On January 12, 2010, Haiti experienced 7.0 magnitude earthquake. The epicenter’s proximity to Port-au-Prince ensured the destruction of the capital, including many government and agency buildings, as well as the loss of over 200,000 lives and displacement of 1.5 million urban residents.(1) In response to the catastrophe, the world sprung to action.
