The cholera outbreak in Haiti has yet to change any of my trip plans, but I'm keeping an eye on it. It's horrible and unfair how easily treated this disease is, yet almost 200 people have died. When you add some nasty bacteria to horrid living conditions, bad sanitation, malnutrition, and no access to health care, that's what happens. As Paul Farmer puts it, cholera deaths are "stupid deaths." Poor people deaths.

I've been keeping tabs through Partners in Health here.

NPFS released a statement that they haven't been affected and are actually mobilizing to the center of the outbreak to bring support to a hospital there. Yet another reason why I love NPFS.
