Growing up in the U.S., I never had to doubt who was controlling my country.  We never question that no other outside governments or agencies are making decisions and directly affecting policy.  We never doubt our sovereignty.

Most Haitians grow up not knowing who is making decisions that affect their lives and whether outside governments, militaries, and international organizations are actually making decisions that in their own interest or for the Haitian people.  Haitians grow up in a world without guarantee of sovereignty.

But they know it.  They know they're not fully in control and they know to question the intentions and priorities of other governments (especially ours) that has occupied their country, run their elections, and exiled their leaders.

They'd like their sovereignty back, please.
